Actively sought after as a master class clinician and private teacher, Alison Young has presented her classes to enthusiastic students in South America, China and in major music schools throughout the United States. Ever curious and willing to share ideas, Ms. Young is currently on the roster for the Artist-in-Schools program sponsored by the Alaska Council on the Arts with it’s vision to bring the arts to remote regions of Alaska.alison young teaching steady rhythm

An experienced yoga practitioner, Ms. Young works with students on the physical aspects of performing the flute including breathing techniques and flexibility in flute playing. With her experience in South America, she has worked with classes specifically on the interpretation of Latin and Brazilian music.

Ms. Young has numerous published articles to her credit in Flute Talk magazine, the Flutist Quarterly and the Houston Flute Club Journal. In 1997 she chose the flute etudes for the Texas Music Educators Association All-State band and orchestra competition and presented a clinic at the annual Texas Bandmasters Association meeting. Ms. Young has served on numerous judging panels for the National Flute Association and most recently for Councours de Musique du Canada.

Ms. Young maintains a studio of private students in Houston, Texas and has seen her high school musicians be named First Chair in the TMEA All-State Orchestra as well as receive the highest honors in Texas UIL Solo and Ensemble events and young artist competitions throughout the United States.

Ms. Young currently serves as Vice President of the Houston Flute Club. She also is the coordinator for the Byron Hester Solo Flute Competition held at the Annual Flute Fest on March 27, 2004.

Yoga is about breathing and concentration and is practiced through asanas or poses. For over 7,000 years, people from all walks of life and in all levels of physical condition have benefited from practicing the art of yoga. Flute playing is mentally and physically stressful. By using yoga in our daily routine, we increase our stamina and flexibility, improve our circulation and refresh our bodies so we are better equipped to handle the demands of our art.
